Our dear friend Christine Yeargin from the popular blog Cake for Breakfast shares her favorite baby shower gifts. You too can be a rockstar gift-giver and knock the baby bootie socks right off that mama-to-be with a must have gift she didn't even know she needed. Read on my friends!
Hi! I'm Christine and gift giving is one of my love languages. Throw in a baby and you’ve got my my entire focus and attention! I love babies and I love even more when my friends have babies. I recently went to a baby shower and thought it would be a good opportunity to show off some of the things I consider great baby shower gifts that a new mom may not necessarily know about yet, but will definitely appreciate. Bonus, almost all of these can be found on Amazon! Get that free shipping, y’all!
Mali Wear has wooden toys and natural teething solutions. The more I learn about the harmful chemicals in plastic toys, the more I advocate for wooden toys! We make sure our tupperware and drinks are bpa free, why not our toys also?
If mama-to-be is having a girl, consider a sweet piece of jewelry like this darling newborn bracelet. Kate Marie Designs has some of the cutest pieces that can be matched with older siblings or mom! There is nothing sweeter than jewelry on babies (under supervision obviously, especially if they’re at the age where everything goes in their mouth).
Wash It Later. YOU GUYS! This one is a must for new moms (seasoned moms too). They don’t know what they’re in for when it comes to blowouts. Instead of tossing outfits (bye bye $$$) put the blowout clothes in one of these soaking bags and wash it later. Helps with stains and saves your diaper bag!
Puracy is an organic, all natural, vegan brand of baby skincare products. It’s easy to forget our skin is an organ. We need to be aware of what we’re putting on it and making sure they’re quality, clean ingredients. ESPECIALLY with our littles. They’re they most vulnerable of us all.
Abby & Finn is our favorite diaper brand and we’ve experienced minimal blowouts (sometimes an entire trash bag wouldn’t hold everything in) with this brand. Diapers are a good thing to stock up on, but more important is stocking up on the RIGHT diapers. These are hypoallergenic, eco-friendly, For every month you subscribe to Abby & Finn, they donate a diaper a day to a family in need.
Bambi Bamboo is a brand I used with Kingsley and can’t wait to use with our new baby. I’ll always suggest their towels as a gift option because they’re INCREDIBLY soft, hypoallergenic, antimicrobial and made from organic bamboo. If you haven’t noticed a pattern yet, you will. I love organic products. This lemon towel is DARLING (Kingsley has one), but they also have this new floral towel that I have my eye on for the new baby we have coming.
Super soft baby wash cloths go perfect with the above purchase of baby skincare. In those early days especially, wash cloths are like socks. You can never have enough because they end up disappearing somehow. I’m convinced dryer lint is the cremated remains of socks and wash cloths.
If you follow me on Instagram (@christineyeargin) you know that I have talked about the Eli & Ali Tush Swiper multiple times. It’s a convenient way to apply diaper cream to a baby’s bottom without getting it all over your hands and under your fingernails. It screws onto almost any tube squeezed diaper cream, is antimicrobial, bpa free, dishwasher safe and is perfect for your diaper bag or changing table!
Simka Rose is one of my favorite small shops. They have bpa-free silicone bibs with the cutest sayings on them, bpa-free suction plates (hellooooo plate that never leaves the table) and really fun nursing covers.
Mr. B’s Necessities has some great all natural products including these candles via Vellbox. I prefer soy candles over paraffin wax because they’re better for us, so naturally I would gravitate toward natural candles as a gift for mom. We can’t leave mom out! Vellabox is a subscription based candle company, guaranteed to keep your house smelling great throughout the year.
In lieu of a traditional gift bag, consider putting your gifts in something mom & baby will actually use like a sweet Moses Basket style bassinet by Tadpoles. These are easy to transport around the house, take on a picnic, or even travel with. You certainly won’t disappoint in the creativity department if you nix the traditional bag and use one of these as your bag/display and an additional gift. Hey, you’re even saving the trees, right!?
The Snuggle Me Organic is another way to get creative and use a gift as the display for any other gifts you may be giving. I love doing things a little less traditional and more on the creative side. The Snuggle Me Organic is something I have heard GREAT reviews on and snagged one for myself to use with the new baby. I like to think of it as baby lounging/sleeping in a hug. Doesn’t that sound like a dream?!
Made by Mary is another go-to gift idea of mine in general, but this beautiful and subtle rainbow made it perfect for a baby shower gift. I bought it on the mini zola disc. If you happen to know the baby’s name or if the shower is more of a “meet the baby” party (after baby is here) you can get the name or the birth date on it. They have birth month flowers and all sorts of things. You can go through their Instagram page @madebymarywithlove for more ideas.
